What is FirstNet?

FirstNet is a nationwide communications network built specifically for public safety and emergency responders. Following 9/11, the lack of connectivity & clear communication among first responders – especially during a large-scale emergency – became abundantly clear. In 2012, the First Responder Network Authority was created to deploy the FirstNet network across all 50 states and U.S. territories.  This private network keeps the lines of communication open to public safety personnel across all areas, even when public communication systems become congested and unreliable.

Why Firstnet?

FirstNet provides the public safety community (law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical services) with a secure wireless network, all the time. With real-time data sharing, optimized location services and uninterrupted coverage during emergency events, the public safety community is empowered to:

Protect First Responders

Communicate real-time information with dispatchers. Alert others to unsafe environments and imminent danger. In emergencies, Law Enforcement & First Responders have their own network of communication – ensuring that there is no delay or slow down in communication.

Save Lives

Respond quickly to the right location. Call for backup. Transport to the nearest available hospital.

Solve Crimes

Access intelligence from other agencies. Collaborate with law enforcement team

Serve the Population

Be readily available and in the know – at all times and under all circumstances.

Communication & Cooperation

Cooperation is key to success for public safety, whether it is  between the two firefighters working  a fire, or between state, county and town police forces responding to a large-scale emergency. Utilizing the first responder network takes a proactive approach to keeping the lines of communication open, with the understanding that losing communication capabilities during an emergency could be catastrophic. Joining FirstNet ensures connectivity, even when public connections are severed or jammed.

FirstNet has your back. The process for approving technology available on the network is stringent, ensuring that the hardware you use to connect to FirstNet can withstand the challenges of your environment.
