I have worked with many industrial computer customers, all experiencing the same issue: lack of space. The fact remains that rack mount, wall mount and desktop industrial PCs aren’t always the ideal solution. That’s where Embedded PCs come into play.
Embedded PCs are fanless systems with a compact form-factor designed for rugged and space-critical Industrial Automation Control applications. They provide the user with processor options ranging from Intel® Atom™ to Intel® Core™ 2 Duo and their aluminum housings allow for reliable operation at temperatures ranging from -45° C to 75° C. Embedded PCs also thrive in harsh environments, withstanding high vibration and shock with ease.
Although Embedded PCs are compact, they still provide the user with rich I/O functions such as Digital I/O, PCI/PCIe expansion, USB, COM, VGA and GbE LAN, PS/2 and Parallel ports. Embedded PCs also allow the user to determine between compact flash card and 2.5” hard drive storage options. Most Embedded PCs are also VESA mount, DIN mount and wall mountable, which is a great attribute when space is at a minimum.
Some of the benefits of Embedded PCs include:
- Compact form factor
- Low power consumption
- Rich I/O functions
- Range of processors from Intel® Atom™ to Intel® Core™ 2 Duo
- PCI/PCIe slot expansion capability
- CF Card/2.5” Hard Drive option
- VESA mount, DIN mount and wall mountable
If space is crucial in your work environment, I would definitely recommend looking into Embedded PCs. Any questions? Get in touch with me!
